On this page we'll list some questions that have been sent to leguinsworld@mail.com.
Q: What is Ursula Le Guin's address?
A: As far as I know Ursula Le Guin does not have a public e-mail address.
However, there is a paper mail address:
Ursula K. Le Guin
P.O. Box 10541
Portland, OR 97210
USA
Q: Can you spot this quote: "It is good
to have an end to journey towards, but it is the journey that matters
in the end."
A: The quote is from The Left Hand of
Darkness. This is in the next-to-last paragraph in chapter
15, To The Ice. It is on page 220 of the Ace paperback edition.
(Thanks to Brandon Buser and Jenny
Costigan for finding the page.)
Q: Where can I find the short story Solitude?
I'm searching for a short story called "Solitude" LeGuin published
in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction around 1994 (?). Do you
know if it's been published in a collection of short stories? It's one
of the best things I've ever read and lost my copy while making all my
friends read it. - Jamie
A: The story will appear in a new collection of stories, The
Birthday of the World and Other Stories, scheduled for March
2002.
Q: Is she still alive? Where does she live?
A: Yes, Ursula Le Guin is indeed still alive. She was born in 1929, and
lives in Portland, Oregon.
Q: Does she still write?
A: Yes, she does. The last years we have seen a number of new novels and
collections of short stories, including The
Telling, Tales from Earthsea,
The Other Wind, and The
Birthday of the World and Other Stories (forthcoming).
Q: Can you give me permission to [whatever]?
I get a lot of questions asking whether I can give permission to use quotes
or cover images for various reasons.
A: My answer is usually along the lines of: "No." That is, I
cannot give permissions because they are not mine to give. Le Guin's world
is just a fan site, it's not official in any sense. If you think you need
permissions, you should contact Le Guin's publishers, not me.
Q: Where can I find a large map of Earthsea?
I was wondering if you would know if there are any plans to release a
full size map of Earthsea. I am currently reading Tales from Earthsea
and the map on the inside covers is wonderful. If you know of any plans
to produce a map please let me know. - Ted
A: There is a high resolution Map
of Earthsea, drawn by Ursula Le Guin herself, downloadable from ursulakleguin.com.
As far as we know, there are no printed maps available. (10
Jan. 2002)
