First of all, these filters are 32-bit, so you have to use PSP 4.0 or higher. If you are using PSP 3.x, which is a 16-bit program, forget about the filters. They wonīt work.

Most of the filters available for download, are packed in a ZIP format. You need a program to unpack the files. Download WinZip from this page (630k).

You also need a copy of the file MSVCRT10.DLL in your Windows/System directory. If you donīt have it, you can download the file here (92k).

A few filters also needs the file PLUGIN.DLL in the Windows/System directory to run. You may download the file here (16k).

Step 1:
Create a new directory below the Paint Shop Pro directory. Name it Plugins (or what ever you prefer). As you can see on the image to the left below, I also have a directory named Plugs. The reason for that is that I have so many filters (45 megs), that all of them wonīt show up in PSP because of the limited space in the Image - Plugin filters window. I had to move some of my filters to the Plug directory to make enough space. Another reason is that the files will be much easier to locate if you want to delete them from your hard drive. You donīt have to create another directory at this time, but I advise you to create separate directories (below the Plugins directory) for each one of the filter sets you are installing (see the image to the right below). This will make it much easier for you in the future when you may have to reorganize or remove them.

Step 2:
When you have downloaded a set of filters to your hard drive, run WinZip (if installed properly, it will start when you doubleclick on the zip file), and copy the files to the Plugins directory. Once again, I advise you to create a separate directory for the filter. This can be done either in Windows Explorer or in WinZip during the process when you extract and copy the files.

Step 3:
Open PSP and choose File - Preferences - General Program References.
Then click on the Plugin Filters tab. Click on the Browse button and from the window that appears, locate the Plugins directory. PSP will scan and load the files located in this directory and the subdirectories. Click on select and then OK. The filters will now load. If not, restart PSP.

Step 4:
Wait while PSP loads the filters. To enable the filters there must be an image opened in PSP. In the menu choose Image - Plugin filters (at the bottom), and there they are (hopefully).

If youīre a very lucky person, all the filters will appear in the window. If not, make sure that the file MSVCRT10.DLL really is located in the Windows/System. Also, read the instructions which usually comes with the filters to see if there are any known bugs or special requirements. Sometimes a filter wont work no matter what you do. You have to accept that because there are unknown bugs.

Notes:
Almost all filters only work with 16 million colors. If you want to use them on a GIF, first increase the color depth.
