Seamless tiles

Iīm going to show you two ways of making a seamless tile of an image. One easy, and one hard (at least less easy). For this tutorial you need the plugin filters, Pattern Edit Do and Undo, found in the DC Special 1 set.

One technique may work well with one texture and bad with another. Sometimes itīs enough to use PSPīs "Create Seamless Pattern", but most textures need to be worked with.

Original image:

First weīll select a square of 100x100 pixels.
Choose: Edit - Copy (or press Ctrl+C).
Then: Edit - Paste - As New Image (or press Ctrl+V).

Click here to see how it looks without anything done to it.

Method 1: PSP`s Create Seamless Pattern
Click on the selection tool
Select: Square - Feather = 0.
Use the original (250x250 pixel) image and draw a selection of 100x100 leaving a good margin to the borders.
Choose: Image - Special Effects - Create Seamless Pattern.
Done.

Used as background it looks like this.

Method 2: DC Special 1 plugin filters, Pattern Edit Do and Undo
We are going to work with the original image (250x250) and the copy (100x100) side by side.
Activate the 100x100 pixel image.
Choose: Image - Plug-in Filters - DC Special - PatternEditDo.

The edges of this offset image will match perfectly, but we have to do something about the seems in the middle. We are going to use the original image as a resource to do that.

Use the lasso tool with a feather of 1 - 2 and select a portion of the original image.

Copy it (Ctrl+C), then make the offset image active and press Ctrl+E. Paste the copied portion into place.

Continue doing this until you have covered the seems. I also used the Dropper to pick up colors from the original image, and then the Paint brush to correct some areas of the offset image with it. You can also use the Clone brush to copy any area (click right mouse button) and paste it (click left mouse button) into place.

When you are satisfied with your work covering the seems, you have to restore the offset image.
Choose: Image - Plug-in Filters - DC Special - PatternEditUndo.
This is it.

Letīs take a look at the final background here.
