It is a island in Greece, one of the islands in the Cyclades. The best way to get there is to fly to Santorini (and then take a ferry for about 1,5 hours) or via Athens, followed by 9 hour boattrip from Pireus. You come to this place for one thing only, to PARTY!! No ordinary chartertourists find their way here, and you arrange your accommodations on-site, which normally isn´t a problem. The visitors (agegroup: 18-30, no familys with children!) consists mainly of european youths, but also some back-packers from all over the world, the rumors of this place is wide-spread. As early as the late sixties the hippie-cult found its way here, and Ios became, next to Ibiza the party-island of the Mediterranians. And it really lives up to its reputation. Here you don´t find any typical tourist-attractions to waste your time on, but there are a couple of excellent beaches, specially Mylopotas Beach (or "Far Out Beach" as it´s normally called). Here, the party starts early, different watermelon-parties is constantly going on, and the ghetto-blasters are pumping out all sorts of music. Out on the nearby cliffs you can find a superb bar, "Harmony", with different taco-dishes, a good place for some chill-out in the shadows. A special Far Out-day event every year is the american national day of independence , 4:th of july. All americans (and everybody else who wants to join) gathers in the town center above the beach, and puts on war-paint all over their bodies, feathers in their hair and other stuff to look like indians. Then this caravan marches down to Far Out Beach, everybody screaming and shouting indian-style. It´s a quite impressing sight! You can propably figure out how the rest of the day continues..

The nighlife is simply outstanding! Ios town lies clinging to a hillside (very beautiful in the evening), and the narrow streets is always packed with dancing and partying people. A few good hangouts among many are: Bars: Kaluha (heavy music), Louie´s (kamikaze!), Blue Note (lots of swedes), Slammer Bar (guess what they serve here?). Disco: Scorpio, Sweet Irish Dream (rave on!). You leave your hotel around 23.00 and don´t come back until the last person has left the dancefloor, if you get back at all... Then after a couple of hours sleep it is time to take the bus down to the beach and start all over again...

There are different categories of rooms to let, and a few smaller hotels. The price for one night is around 50-75 SEK. If you wanna be located in the middle of everything you should try "Francescos", the no 1 partyhotel. Another good place is "Kolitzani View", a somewhat more quiet alternative with extremely nice owners, Michaelis och Elizabeth. Good place if you wanna sleep long in the mornings...

As a whole, this island has everything you need for a perfect vacation, that is if you´re looking for one long rave. The natives are nice and its quite cheap! The best period to go here is in june or first half of july. You should not come here late july or august because then the Israelic and Italian army-guys are here on leave, which sometimes leads to a big invasion, followed by lots of fighting and trouble (the police has even closed down the whole place a couple of times!)

This year there were only 3 of us "Swedish Orgasms" going to paradise, but hey, who cares. On Ios your never alone! We checked in at "Kolitzani View" as usual and hit the town right away. Everything was as it should, loads of partying people at the town square, pretty girls in numbers and an unlimited supply of Kamikazies, tequilas, gin & tonics, beers etc, etc. We tried out "Kahlua" (of course), "Louies", "Lemon", Upside Down" and finally ended up at "Scorpio" to rave on into dawn...

The next morning we stumbled down to Far Out Beach and found our friends at "Harmony" still mixing those fantastic Orgasms. We also hooked up with the Ios Pirates (Pete from Boston with friends), always ready for some heavy music and a watermelon-party! Shining sun, beautiful girls, deep blue sea, cold drinks and a ghetto-blaster, what else do u need?

For 10 straight days we followed this route, getting high on the Ios atmosphere. We met a lot of new crazy friends (see Ios Rave Crew), some old ones and had a great time, U just cant go wrong in this place!

Our last day was the Swedish Midsummer, its that time of year we swedes eat "sill & nubbe" (herring and vodka shots), dance around the Midsummer Pole and get totally out of control! The pool area at Far Out Camping was packed from noon, with people painted in yellow and blue, dancing, drinking and going wild (excellent work Ken1!). There where some strange looks in the Greek spectators faces when about 200 wasted swedes joined the dancing circle around the Midsummer Pole, singing "Små Grodorna" (little frogs), a traditional folksong, very impressing. Unfortunatly we had to take the boat back to Rhodos at midnight, but we got the best part of this party. And Ios will still be there, so
