A Mardi Gras parade in New OrleansA float - the big parade vehicles which the members of the krewes ride during the famous Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans. The parading organizations are called "krewes," which are social clubs. Some are men only, some are women only, some are mostly black, some are gay, etc. Some are very commercial. The new "Krewe of America" will sell you space on a float (and a hotel room and tickets to their ball).
