Formed 1885 by members of the St Mary's
Young Men's Association, St Mary's FC. The
church link was dropped, though the name
retained, in 1893. In 1895 applied for a

to be invited to fill a subsequent vacancy. 'St
Mary's' was dropped after two seasons. Moved

1898. Six times Southern League champions,
Southampton were founder members of
Football League Division Three in 1920 (this
becoming Division Three (South) the following
season), of Division Three at the end of
regionalisation in 1958, and of the Premier
