
Founded in 1867 by members of the
Wednesday Cricket Club and played at
Highfield before moving to Myrtle Road. Were
first holders of the Sheffield FA Cup. The club
played at Sheaf House then Endcliff and
became professionals in 1886. In 1887 moved
to Olive Grove. Refused admission to the
Football League, the club was founder
member, and first champions, of the Football
Alliance in 1889. In 1892 most Alliance clubs
became founder members of Football League
Division Two, but Wednesday were elected to
an enlarged top division. The club moved to
Hillsborough in 1899. Founder member of the
Premier League 1992.
