Gerry Francis
1951:
Born Chiswick, on December 6.
1968:
Joins QPR as an apprentice.
1969:
Makes League debut against Liverpool.
1974:
Takes over from Terry Venables as QPR captain.
Wins first
England cap in European Championship qualifier
against Czechoslovakia
at Wembley.
1975:
Don Revie appoints him England captain.
1976:
Makes his 12th and final England appearance
against Finland.
QPR finish runners-up in the League to
Liverpool.
1979:
Makes £465,000 move to Crystal Palace
in June after making 293 League
appearances (4 as sub) and scoring
53 goals for Rangers.
1981:
Returns to Loftus Road in £150,000
deal in February after making 59
appearances and scoring seven goals for
Palace.
1982:
Moves to Coventry in February after making
a further 17 appearances (four
goals) for Rangers.
1983:
Allowed to leave Highfield Road by mutual
consent with new
manager Bobby Gould. Becomes player-manager
of Exeter, but is
sacked after they are relegated to the
fourth division. Makes 28 app.
and scores 4 goals for the team.
1984:
Makes 7 appearances for Cadiff and 3 for
Swansea on a non-contract basis
before rejoining former England team-mate
Alan Ball at Portsmouth in November.
Plays 3 games for Pompey.
1985:
Joins up with Dave Bassett at Wimbledon
and helps out with
coaching.
1987:
Becomes player-manager of Bristol Rovers
after putting £20,000
of his own money into the club.
1990:
Guides Rovers to Leyland DAF Cup final,
where they lose to
Tranmere Rovers, and division three championship.
He made
33 league apperances for Rovers.
1991:
Succeeds Don Howe as manager of QPR.
1994:
Resigns as manager of QPR on November 10
in protest at club
owner Richard Thompson's plan to appoint
Rodney Marsh as chief
executive. Appointed manager of Tottenham
on November 15.
1995:
A Jurgen Klinsmann-inspired Spurs finish
seventh in the League
and reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Breaks club transfer record to
sign Chris Armstrong from Crystal Palace
for £4.5million.
1996:
Tottenham finish eighth in the Premiership.
1997:
Spurs are rocked by a succession of injuries
and finish 10th in the
League in a season to forget.
1997:
Sacked as manager of Tottenham.
1998:
New manager of QPR.
