Following a dispute between Everton and its
Anfield landlord a new club, Liverpool AFC,
was formed in 1892 by the landlord, former
Everton committee-man John Houlding, with its
headquarters at Anfield. An application for
Football League membership was rejected
without being put to the vote. Instead the team
joined the Lancashire League and immediately
won the championship. After that one
campaign, when the Liverpool Cup was won
but there was early FA Cup elimination,
Liverpool was selected to fill one of two
vacancies in an expanded Football League
Second Division in 1893. Premier League
founder members 1992.
