
Founded in 1884 as Leicester Fosse by
former pupils of the Wyggeston School from
the western part of the city near the old Roman
Fosse Way. Moved to their present ground in
1891 and from the Midland League joined
Division Two of the Football League in 1894.
Promoted for the first time in 1908, they have
been relegated seven times from the top flight.
FA Cup runners-up four times, they gained
European Cup-Winners' Cup experience in
1961-62. Members of the new Division One in
its first season, 1992-93, and promoted to the
Premier League following play-off success in
1994. Relegated straight back but
re-promoted, again via the play-offs at the end
of the 1995-96 season. Won the League Cup
in 1997.
