The cricket team of St Domingo's Church
turned to football around 1878. Playing
in
Stanley Park, in late 1879 changed name
to
Everton FC, the name of the district to
the west
of the park. Moved to a field at Priory
Road in
1882 and then, in 1884, moved to a site
in
Anfield Road. As one of the country's leading
teams, became founder members of the
Football League in 1888. Moved to Goodison
Park, a field on the north side of Stanley
Park,
in 1892 following a dispute with the ground's
landlord. The royal blue colours was adopted
in 1901
after wearing several other colours.
