
Founded as Singer's FC, cycle manufacturers,
in 1883. Joined the Birmingham and District
League in 1894; in 1898 changed name to
Coventry City; and in 1905 moved to the
Athletic Ground, Highfield Road. Elected to
Division One of the Southern League in 1908,
but relegated to the Second in 1914. Joined
the Wartime Midland Section of the Football
League in 1918 and elected to an expanded
Second Division of the Football League for
1919-20. Founder members of the Fourth
Division in 1958. Promoted to Division One for
the first time in 1967 and never relegated.
