Vorkosigan House sketches
Lois McMaster Bujold Fan Art
The Vorkosigan family has a grand house in the capital Vorbarr
Sultana. This building is called Vorkosigan House, and it is
frequently mentioned in Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan novels.
I have made these sketches of how Vorkosigan House might look,
based on hints in the novels.
Notice: The books do not give any clear description of the
shape of Vorkosigan House, so it could be H-shaped,
U-shaped, L-shaped, or perhaps T-shaped
or some other shape.
New: Comments about the porte-cochere added.
Some comments about the sketches:
- The individual rooms, and stairs, bathrooms, doors, etc.
are not shown in the drawings.
- There is a rather narrow walk behind the parapet bordering
the roof, where people can walk.
- There should probably be a roof over the porte-cochere in
front of the main entrance.
- Level 0 (basement): The gray area is a ramp down to the
garage in the sub-basement.
- Level 1 (ground level): The gray area is the main foyer.
- Level 2: The gray areas are corridors. Note that the front part
of the foyer has double height, and the corridors surrounding it
are open towards the foyer.
- Level 3and 4: The gray areas are corridors.
- The small square on all levels towards the rear of the building
is a grav lift shaft.

Extra: A cross-section through
the front part of the H-shaped house.
Some things to note about the cross-section:
- The garage in the sub-basement, and the ramp down to the garage.
- Perhaps the Butterbug Lab is to the left of the wine cellar.
- The main foyer on the ground floor (level 1) has double
roof height.
- The corridors on level 2 have one open side with railing
towards the foyer.

All Bujold fans have surely waited for the
Vorkosigan ComConsole,
reskinned versions of Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Suite,
Netscape, or MS Internet Explorer with a "Vorkosigan" look. |
